Matt Turino is a great oldtime fiddle player who grew up in Urbana, Illinois. The son of a revivalist oldtime banjo player and ethnomusicologist, Thomas Turino, Matt had oldtime and contradances in his life since he was very young. A frequent performer at local markets, Matt adapted Quebecois foot percussion for use in solo situations, leading to his remarkably full sound. For many years now, Matt has performed on the national contradance circuit as part of the well-known band The Mean Lids.
