In this lesson Craig Judelman teaches the classic “Rocky Pallet” based on a source version from The Skillet Lickers (1929). This three part tune is a favorite in many local oldtime communities.

The fiddle is in standard tuning (GDAE) in the key of C.

Judelman first teaches the three parts separately and then demonstrates a bunch of variations to give the tune some more excitement. There’s a lot that can be done with these tunes to spice them up for yourself and listeners, just as bands in 20s and 30s did then.
